Church History

In 1975, Faith Missionary Baptist Church was begun by Missionary Ralph Cunningham with the endorsement of Faith Baptist Church of North Little Rock, Arkansas. The first service was held on January 15, 1975 with 36 in attendance. The first building was located at the corner of East Main and Pin Oak Streets.

In 1978, Bro. Cunningham resigned, and Bro. Logan B.C. Hutson was called to take over the leadership of the church. Bro. Hutson served until January of 1991 when he tendered his resignation. His years of compassionate leadership saw growth in the church spiritually and numerically.

In March of 1991, the church called Bro. Brent Summerhill as pastor. In June of 1995, they voted to purchase the 12.5 acres on Bill Foster Memorial Highway where the church is now located. And then, in February of 1997, the church voted to go ahead with relocation to the new property. After the sale of the Pin Oak property, the church met in a junior high cafeteria until moving into the current facilities in March of 2001. Since then, the church has added the east wing that houses Faith Baptist Academy, preschool Sunday School, elementary Sunday School and the ATTIC, which is the home for our junior high and senior high ministry.

The Lord has blessed the church with the development of various ministries including the church's mission program. In the late 1990's the church partnered with First Baptist in Littlestown, PA to help that young congregation acquire a facility. In 2003, the church sent her first foreign missionary to Romania. In 2012, the church sent Bro. Ed Byrnes as missionary to Oregon.

In May of 2014, Bro. Summerhill resigned as senior pastor. Faith always will be grateful for the 23 years of Christ-centered leadership and ministry he and his wife, Cindy, provided while here. In March of 2015, the church called Bro. Richard Hamlin as senior pastor.

The history of Faith is His story. It is the narrative of what God has done and continues to do through this church.
